When Jesus came to live among us, he did not come alone. He was born into a family. Mary was his mother, Joseph was his foster father. He had many cousins, relatives and friends. In that little village of Nazareth, Mary and Joseph raised him up until he was ready. When he left, he spent his time healing the sick, raising the dead, preaching the Gospel, teaching people to pray, even forgiving sinners!
It is no surprise that everyone who loves Jesus also appreciates the family. Pope Francis, therefore, called for a very special meeting in the Vatican from 5 to 19 October 2014. It will be the third extraordinary assembly of the Synod of Bishops. In order to have a clear picture of the "Pastoral Challenges to the Family in the Context of Evangelization", the Holy Father asks us to describe our situation: as persons, as families, as communities, as countries.
